Never gonna grow up, never gonna slow down. We were shinin’ like lighters in the dark in the middle of a rock show. We were doin’ it right, we were comin’ alive. Yeah, caught up in a Southern summer, barefoot, blue jean night.
– Jake Owen (Barefoot Blue Jean Night)Can you find peace?
I can’t sleep and usually I write when I can’t sleep. So here’s to the Chardon community. Many thoughts and prayers have been sent your way by everyone tonight. Rest in Peace Danny, Russell and Demetrius. TJ Lane, may you also find peace.
A simple mind
One of a child
Bends but doesn’t break
Until suddenly…
SNAP.
It’s the shot of a gun
The screams of the students
The sound of his life being ruined
It’s the shattering of a life
A choice was made
And for a moment,
It was everything he’s ever wanted
Just for a moment.
All eyes were on him.
All thoughts focused on his actions
Everyone’s mind became his
And he was no longer ignored
It was just too much
Life had made full circle
As he punished
Those who punished him
Unstable and weak,
He found a breaking point
The point of no return
The point of insanity
Maybe murder was never the intent
Maybe he just wanted to be noticed
Because they had gone too far
With the names and mockery
The choice was made
And he was to blame
As it was so obvious
That it was his crime
But was it?
All of us,
Each and every one of us
Watched it happen.
Watched him close up
And isolate himself from the world
Watched him withdraw
And become a shell
No one stopped the bullying
No one noticed that he was dying
That his heart was breaking
That he wanted an easy way out
No one ever bothered with him
A simple, “how are you?”
With listening ears and an open mind
Could have changed his mind
But we just sat back
And figured it wasn’t our problem
Because it wasn’t our lives
Because it didn’t concern us.
Does it concern you now?
Is it your life now?
The realization that it always was
Hits you like an oncoming train.
Don’t just sit back
And watch things happen
Make a difference
And change a life
Because one simple “how are you?”
One friendly smile or wave
One phone call or text
Can save a life.

Seeing as Symphonic Band is playing this this year, I can’t really decide whether it’s a pro or problem. More than likely, it will turn out to be a problem.
